Japan #11 – Izakaya, Japanese Tapas

In Japan I was introduced to izakaya which you could basically describe as Japanese tapas.

Izakaya roughly translates into ‘sit down and have a drink’, it is a type of Japanese drinking establishment which also serves food to accompany the drinks.

Izakaya is kind of like tapas in that you order small servings of food which are designed to be shared.

They are popular, casual and relatively cheap places for after-work drinking and a place to catch up with friends.

Favourite bar snack – edamame (boiled soya beans)
